We assembled at Doagh on a grey morning with a very light north easterly breeze.
Bill had new plane, an ePurito but it initially refused to play which gave everyone a great opportunity to offer advice and assistance. Simple fix as the band for closing the blades was chokiing the motor shaft! Soon it was ready to go and the first flyers went off to find no lift at all.
Paul watched their efforts and chose a different part of the sky where lift was eventually found.
Next round everyone headed that way, some found massive lift. Sam was among those who achieved great height which allowed him to give a display of contest flying by landing on the spot at the exact time, perfect!
The third round had excellent lift at the beginning but this died at the end of the round leaving the last flyer with the worst score of the day.
Sam couldn’t start the final round as his model was out of commission, (broken pushrod), but the next three flyers found the poor conditions. The last flyer managed to reconnect with good lift to win the round and the competition.
Throughout the event landing points proved difficult, as people stretched flight times fractionally too much and were left with not enough height/momentum to reach the spot.
