After a long delay due to the Covid 19 pandemic we finally got our first comeptitive event of 2020 run!
It was a nice morning, but the wind was a little stronger (and in a different direction) to the forecast! The bungees were set out and the first 2 pilots (Tommy & Tim), stepped up to take their flights. To say these were interesting would be a vast understatement! Low level turbulence was horrendous and a discussion ensued between all the pilots/CD as to whether we should continue or not! The wind dropped a little and we acrried on, although it was still turbulent. Some people got away (a bit) others didn’t! There was a marked difference in launch heights despite 2 identical bungees and all models being PuRES 2m. There was much discussion in the pits area over CG, hook positions and any other factors to affect launching. (We’re still working on it!)
This was David’s first competitive event and despite the conditions he flew well, at least taking home an undamaged model. No damage was done to any of the models despite the conditions. Very surprising.
