Sunday morning lived up to the forecast of light easterlies. Light winds meant low launch heights as the bungee lost stretch very fast.
The conditions made for poor thermals with serious sink in between. Finding sustained lift was a lottery with only Tommy finding great lift enabling him to soar to towering height and Andrew finding a bubble at very low height over the field which he worked very hard to maintain, with fellow competitors, (Sam), whispering keep it going, keep it going. We compete but just like to see good flights people have to work to get. The low air times made hitting the landing spot very important though the assembled field only managed it half the time. The models just seemed to stop, like hitting a brick wall as soon as you turned back in to wind.
Bill had a reasonable first round (better than most), but after that his launches were very flat and didn’t get much height. When taking the model apart at the end of the day he noticed his boom was cracked just ahead of the tail, which meant any time there was pressure on the tail he immediately got down elevator!
Andrew tested a new model, a Slite which flew very well indeed for a model which had not been dialled in.
Paul eventually ran out the winner.
